What defines 3rd generation K-pop?
K-pop generations are loosely defined by debut year and the era's defining production style. Boundaries between generations aren't strict — the term is used by fans and the industry to cluster groups who share training systems, sound trends, and global breakout patterns.
3rd-gen groups (debuting roughly 2012–2017) drove K-pop's global breakout: BTS, BLACKPINK, TWICE, SEVENTEEN, NCT, and Red Velvet all came from this wave. Production became cinematic, and Western collaborations became routine.
